The Armani Research Lab has an opening for a 2 year post-doctoral scholar appointment with a possibility of renewal in the field of integrated photonics.  The research will be performed in the newly opened $255M Michelson Center for Convergent Biosciences on the main USC campus with additional collaborative opportunities with the Ellison Institute. The start date is flexible, but the preferred date is between January 2019 to August 2019. The key skills and background include: 1) nanofabrication methods for devices on Si wafers including etching (e.g. RIE), lithography (e.g. e-beam, photo), deposition (e.g. lift-off, metal evaporation),  2) integrated optical device design and implementation (e.g. on/off chip coupling for waveguides, EM modeling), and 3) test and measurement experience (e.g. optical loss, electron microscopy imaging of devices). Additional skills of interest: Experience with devices fabricated from non-conventional optical materials and/or experience with biological systems. Interested applicants should email their CV to Prof. Armani (Armani@usc.edu) with subject line: Post-doc Opening. In the body of the email, please include 200word max answers to the following: 1) motivation for pursuing a post-doc position, 2) interest in this area of research/topic, 3) summary of key relevant skills, and 4) potential tentative start date and possible hurdles (e.g. need to defend, other post-doc ending).
